What's a Tablet PC?
Tablet PCs are compact, ultra-portable entertainment devices that let you read email, surf the internet, read eBooks, view photos, play games, listen to music and watch video files. Most tablets are based on a smaller operating system, which allows you to purchase and install additional applications from supported stores. Tablet PCs do not have a CD/DVD drive and will not run Microsoft Windows or its applications. Tablet PCs function as a secondary device for casual entertainment purposes, and are not meant to replace a computer. They are ideal for use around the home and on the go with WiFi or 3-4g mobile broadband connections (pay as you go, contract may be required for service).

I’m big on reviews. Amazon had thousands of reviews most were positive. The few that were negative were minor and I figured they had hard luck of purchasing lemons.

First, Walmart online price was incorrect. Walmart online price would not let the order proceed to checkout and suddenly displayed store price. We paid full price.

Within an hour, the system would not detect wireless. Once we spent 45 minutes refreshing the system (problem with wireless adapter), we were surprised that google chrome could not be downloaded. I then began re-reading the negative reviews online and found that our problem was common.

This was purchased to use on jobsites, with intention to tether phone internet. Time is money and this would cost more time and frustration than its worth!

I’ve decided to return it and now have been “factory re-setting” for the last hour and its still at 1%.

We have owned this for a total of 5 hours and it has been nothing but a headache.

This is a fully-loaded tablet. It can’t be beat at this price ($179# if your laptop or PC already has Windows 7 or 8. Got mine yesterday. I knew I’d be in for a day of orientation and updates, but the results are great. If you are familiar with Windows 8.X there are no surprises, just a lot of time to invest getting on the internet, register and get all the updates #there’s herds of them). I found tons of apps in the store too, so I got Amazon, Best Buy, Newegg, etc. It’ll take all day but it’s worth it even if you just use Office. I’ll use my Surface to display music lyrics onstage with MS Powerpoint.

I got my MS Surface a few months ago and I barely put it down! Just a little background; I’m a computer nut, ex-programmer, self-taught repairman, and overall expert. I used to assemble and sell PCs for fun.

Now, about the Surface. I was a little nervous about buying one because I’d heard some bad reviews, but I soon realized that most of the complaints were from people who expected the Surface to replace their laptop or PC. If that is your expectation, come back to reality! The Surface is powerful and can do a lot of things, but it’s no replacement for a fully loaded PC. The Windows RT operating system is good, but a lot of functions that you’d have n a PC are not present in the Surface.

All that being said, the MS Surface is a beautiful machine! The screen resolution is awesome, the operating system superb, and the apps work great! The operating system puts the Android system to shame, and though there may be more apps available for the Android (so far), I’ve found that most of the apps I used on my android tablet are available for the Windows RT system. Email, Netflix, Internet Explorer, even the familiar desktop is there. Networking has worked perfectly and the internal speakers have at least twice the power of my old Acer tablet.

The only complaint I have is that I had to buy an external keyboard separately (and I can’t disable the stupid touch pad). All in all, I highly recommend the Surface for anyone just don’t expect to discard your laptop!

First about me. I’m an IT pro and work as a system admin in a network of 19000 users. I’ve been testing and trying all kinds of tablets for more than 2 years. And they are very diferent in many ways. First the three main kinds are Apple iPads, Google Androids and then Microsoft Windows RT. I consider Microsoft Surface Pro a very light laptop as the Windos system is the same as on desktops and they are expensive.
I may be biased towards Windows because that is the system I have used for many years. Some of the Androids are pretty good but that is only the more expensive ones like the Samsung Galaxy Note 2014. The Androids also have a very extensive Play store but it needs some quality control as many apps are totally useless.
App store for iPad is also very extensive but quality of apps is much better but not as many free apps as in Android store.
When I first got an Surface almost two years ago with Windows RT I did not like it at all. It could not run all my usual Windows programs and then the Windows Store was really limited. I still found that I could run my most important programs from work, Outlook, Word and Excel and it was better than most in web browsing as it had the latest and best browser. I do not like Safari browser in iPads.
Then a big advancement came last October, when Windows update brought Windows RT 8.1. Everything became faster and smoother and at the same time the Windows store offered much better selection of good apps. Only few days ago another huge improvement came from Windows update when Windows 8.1 got updated with lots of new features that make Windows 8.1 by far the best windows ever!
I have many tablets available and the Windows RT is the one I grab when I need one. I will definitely buy Surface 2 if I loose the old one.
Among the pros is that the Surface can have extra storage on memory cards witch is very good if you like to watch movies when traveling. It has a regular size USB port where you can connect memory keys or even a mouse or a printer if you like. Easy to access external files.
The Keyboards are a nice accessory although not a necessity. The stand is on the tablet not the keyboard. The display is responsive and bright. Cameras on front and rear are not very good on the old one but better on the Surface 2. I have a phone with much better camera and I would not use the tablet for real photographing anyway.
For me the choice is between Surface and Surface 2. All the others are way behind.

I order this online and its a reasonable price.Shipping is like lighting fast although its free and regular.I am so excited to play with it and try to get use to and boy oh boy..First,the letters are way too small for a finger to touch and i need to make it the screen bigger just to press a single word. You need to press the keyboard icon to search and it wont remove unless you do it.Theres so many restrictions for Apps.I love itunes and you cant download it bcoz the system is Windows RT and i didnt read the features of this thing that much.I have a small hands and holding this in few minutes make my wrist hurt so bad.You need to buy good case for this to hold on to otherwise you will have a hard time. The internet is too slow maybe due to a lot of software activities going on.touch and move is way too sensitive. So i realize in just one day that this is not for me.Ipad is heavy too but not as heavy as this and easy to manage.so if you want to get this you may want to check other ppl reviews like youtube regarding this.Goodluck!
