This LeapFrog Epic is another wonderful product from LeapFrog. We’ve had several Leapsters & a LeapPad and I’m sure there are many others I’m forgetting. My children have always loved their electronics and it teaches them different skills while they play.

Anyways, the Epic has a 7inch touchscreen with a rubber protector around the outside. I still make my child sit down in order to play. Even though the rubber should protect against drops its just a good habit to get the younger kids not to walk around with them. It has 16GB of memory storage. Hopefully that will be enough. For right now it is. There is a card slot to add more memory but that will have to be purchased in the future. There’s a place to hook up headphones so other people in the same room aren’t disturbed while a child is playing on the Epic. You get to create a parent profile before the child profile. You control how long the child is allowed on the Epic per day. What times he or she is allowed to play on it and which websites are allowed. It comes with over 20 apps already and you are able to purchase more LeapFrog apps. Overall I love it, my child loves it. If you are a LeapFrog fan and familiar with their products this will not disappoint. And if you’ve never purchased a LeapFrog product before this is a great one to start with!

Judge me if you want, but I got this tablet for my youngest son for his 4th birthday. He LOVES it! I am very glad I got it for him. It is a real tablet with LeapFrog flair (LeapFrog apps & parental controls). We love that it came with the green rubber bumper case and 20 apps. The value of those alone makes this a great buy. The interactive home screen is a nice addition to this tablet; my son loves adding and removing stickers to his little town and checking the mailbox for the word of the day. I love that in addition to the apps my son can click on Leap Search to browse the websites that I have allowed such as PBS Kids. The leapfrog apps that come with the Epic are very fun, educational, and entertaining. You can add more apps from the LeapFrog App Center and you can download the Amazon Play Store to the Epic and download those apps as well. My son loves that I was able to download the Netflix app for him that way. In addition to the app games I have installed, my son loves to check the clock app and tell me what time it is, checking the weather app for our areas’ real-time forecast, and listening to his music. He also enjoys taking videos and pictures of everything with his front and back cameras and recording himself singing and saying silly things with his voice recorder. It takes really good pictures and you can edit them just like you could on a cell phone. Speaking of cell phones, this Epic tablet has a built in rechargeable battery and takes the same charger as my cell phone. It says that this tablet is for ages 3-9 years old, but as the child gets older, you can give them more and more access to the internet. They could surf the web with no restrictions if you so allowed. Therefore, it can be used well beyond 9 years old. If you are in the market for a tablet for your young child, I highly recommend buying this LeapFrog Epic Tablet.

This is a fantastic learning tablet for kids. With all the technology available to them today in school and outside of this is a fantastic way to teach coordination, basic computer skills and understanding, critical thinking skills and assimilation of what has already been learned. The lessons are already geared towards your child’s age group so nothing too hard or too easy will be presented. The screen is touch screen which they love. I watched with glee as my kids flipped through and followed the directions on the games and activities to learn new exercises. It really is like having a virtual teacher and you are in charge of the lesson plans. You determine by the games and applications you download how much of each subject, i.e. reading, math, science.

The set up is done in less than 5 minutes, wireless internet is required so be aware of that. You can create a profile for each child, date of birth is requested for each to gather the correct learning materials for each learning stage and finally wireless is set up. You can download additional learning tools (apps and games) from the google play store, amazon.com and leapfrog. You can even purchase specific leapfrog gift cards to have on file to purchase new materials. While I say this I will be upfront and let you know that it does not come loaded with tons of games or apps really just a few and you will need to go on line and purchase an educational curriculum for your child. What I mean is purchasing an age appropriate math app, English, Science, etc. This is the new age of learning and while some may give out about dropping 14,17, 20 dollars here and there over apps let me assure you as a homeschooling mom that you are spending this in paper and pencil, print outs and materials. So you do the math, figure out if its right for you but this is portable, can be taken anywhere and will go with them in the car and keep them entertained and learning.

The tablet comes with an ac power plug and it also runs on battery. Its really a fantastic little tablet and you will need to recharge it daily depending on use. The outside cover is very sturdy and they would really have to like smack it hard against something to really seriously do some damage. I would say its drop proof and therefore a good buy because it will last as long as its not intentionally destroyed. The internet is a controlled environment which you control and therefore safe. This tablet has a 16 GB storage space that is tons of space you are not likely to run out. The kids can also use it to take pictures, it really is very advanced. All in all there are lots of tablets out there for kids but I would say the curriculum materials provided by leapfrog are superior, they really understand how kids think which will no doubt speed their learning process and knowledge base on all the subjects presented. There is good and there is better, this is best. Although, other tablets offer tons of free software as the Kids Fire tablet their learning software is not as good. So, keep that in mind when making your choice and then figure out how much money you are going to save by not constantly having to print things out for them to learn.

I received this LeapFrog Epic ,Android-based Kids Tablet for free in exchange of an honest review. When I order this tablet I wasn’t sure if my 10 yr. old son would like it or think it was to boring for him. When my son tried it he said it looks like a real tablet not just a little child’s toy. He loves the main page , you press on the item and they make a noise. It also lets you animated your main page with stickers in one of the app’s. It comes with leapfrog games which are very fun and help them learn, reading and mathematics and other stuff. It comes with 20 download app’s which one of them is similar to the game the ninja fruit where they slice the fruits. It has very fun and educational games. Which obviously me as a parent love that. The only thing is this leapfrog tablet can’t used cartridge games . But ut also comes with a leapfrog library and plenty of games which your child will enjoy. This tablet also gives you the right time and also gives you the whether in your and other locations near by . If for any reason you feel it’s not safe this tablet also comes with parent lock. You may lock and enter you pin and only you may unlock it. This tablet comes with 16gb. It also comes with WiFi. This is a 7″ lcd touch screen . It has a front and back cameras and video recorder . It comes with a green protective bumper which can be removed. It has it’s charge and usb adapter. Comes with parent guide. The screen resolution is great. I love the way the pictures look , so Cleary and colorful. This comes with a shatter safe lcd screen. It also comes with a rechargeable battery. Even though it say it’s recommend to kids 3-9 years of age my 10 yr old son loves it. It has lost of games , leapfrog library, music over 20 very nice app’s, perfect in every way. my daughter was super excited to receive this leappad epic, she is 6. we have had most of the leappad’s previous versions, before this one. this tablet has good and bad things with it. I will start with the good. it has an active background setting were she can interact with items in the background, new things everyday also. it comes with its own protective bumper. it comes with twenty apps. wifi connection I have not had any problems with, it has 16 gb hard drive and ability to have micro SD card put into it. 7 inch screen, and android based operation system, which is more like a smart phone than a leappad tablet. it is faster too with a 1.3 ghz quad-core processor, I believe that its the fastest leappad has put out yet. the ability to access the internet. the child can only access child safe and leappad approved sites, and videos. you as a parent can change this in the parental controls, to add a website, to add full web browsing, but I did not set this up it is still in child safe mode because of her age. under the parent controls you can add apps that you own to your device. you do not need to connect to the leapfrog connect on your computer it is done wirelessly to your epic device. as the parent you have the control to access the amazon app store, which I did. you have to install this app, I used my existing amazon login and password, really easy. the amazon app store is only available under the parent controls, your child cannot access it, without your control. I downloaded a few apps for her. I had to disable in app purchases, you have to do this in the amazon app center menu games/apps settings and you can set up the password to enable in app purchases etc. downloading apps was kind of slow, but its not really that slow we are just use to fast and faster with new technology. the stylus is pretty similar to the leappad 3. the connection for charging the device is different than any other leappad tablet. it does not have the same connection port as the other leappad devices, it now has a connection that would fit my cell phone. the epic is easy to use for my daughter she loves watching the videos they supply online of dogs, toy story, elmo, etc.
Now for the disappointment. there are some apps you cannot remove off the tablet. why I don’t know. the system does not accept the leapfrog game cartridges you buy separately. it does not connect to the computer like a normal leapfrog tablet, it does not show in leapfrog connect application at all. when you hook it up to your computer the computer recognizes it as a device like a phone, probably because the android os. it was confusing for me the parent to insure all safety precautions we taken so she could not buy anything or how to get the amazon app. it took me a good two hours going through everything trying to get apps. but the most annoying and upsetting thing about this tablet is, although I PURCHASED a good twenty apps for my kids to use in their leappad tablets, the EPIC FAILS HERE. only SOME of my purchased apps are available with the epic. I mean like five out of the twenty I bought. my daughter loves the two care bears apps in the leapfrog app center, but they are not available with the epic tablet. I do not know if there is anyway you can check before you buy an epic what is available on it. I do not know if they are planning on added these apps later. I don’t know why I cannot put the apps I PURCHASED on my kids tablet. all we have are apps I got in the amazon store or choose to buy through my leappad epic.
I honestly don’t know if i’d recommend this tablet. yes I love that its kid safe, I am in control with the material she sees. But I hate the fact that you cannot get all the apps you previously purchased with your other tablets. I don’t know if its going to change or not, yes the amazon app store is awesome, but not only does it not use the game cartridges which I was okay with, because I thought she could still use her other apps, but she cannot. leapfrog epic or regular tablet? well a regular tablet is cheaper, and is basically what I got when I got this. leapfrog needs to let us use our apps we bought and then i’d be happier.
